BASEBALL COACHING OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE

Hi Baseball Clubs,

My name is Jo and I’m the Sporting Schools Coordinator for Melbourne Sports Institute.

If you aren’t familiar with Sporting Schools, it’s a $280 million Australian Government initiative designed to help schools increase children’s participation in sport and connect them with community sport opportunities. Sporting Schools programs are provided free to children and their families to help students build the confidence and capability to be active for life.

Melbourne Sports Institute provides coaches for a range of sports including Baseball (T-ball in Primary Schools and Baseball5 in Secondary), Gymnastics, Volleyball, Badminton to name a few.

I have personally been part of the Baseball community in the South Eastern Melbourne suburbs for quite some time now as a player, parent and coach, I was the Sporting Schools Coordinator for Baseball Victoria prior to this role and am very passionate about helping increase participation in the sport through the Sporting Schools program.  I have this program below that I am seeking a coach for, but I am also looking to build up the quantity of high quality baseball coaches to make it easier to fill these requests.

How it works:

·         The school selects the sport they wish to run and contact MSI to provide the coaches

·         The government provides the school with grant funding to pay for the program

·         Coaches signs up as an employee (or contractor) with Melbourne Sports Institute and I email opportunities to the database as they arise (such as the one below)

Coaches must have:

·         WWCC (Employee preferred)

·         Relevant certificates (e.g. community coaching principals, infection control, child safe certificate – all free and online)

·         Experience coaching kids – program outline provided to assist in session planning

·         Availability during school hours (some programs are run before or after school but not many)

The benefits:

·         Coaches get paid $30 – $40 per session. There might be one session or six within a day (example below)

·         Coaches have the ability to connect potential new players with opportunities to play Baseball at surrounding clubs

I am currently emailing the closest clubs to Brunswick East Primary School as this is one I have not yet filled for Term 1. The pay rate is $30 per session and there are 36 sessions in total.

Junior Umpiring Roster

Below is a document listing all Junior Umpiring Appointments as of this moment  (please be aware that changes may occur due to teams adding and withdrawing teams)

Please check the list to see if and when you are rostered to Umpire.
It is envisaged at this stage that you will only be rostered once during the season. Players who find their name not on the list, at this stage, may be called upon to umpire once finals come around.

And a reminder to all, especially new players, that this is not optional.

If for ANY reason you believe you will not be able to cover your rostered spot, it is then your responsibility to arrange a swap or replacement.

A reminder text will be sent each Monday morning at 10am reminding that you are rostered to umpire on the coming Sunday.
