My name is Jo and I’m the Sporting Schools Coordinator for Melbourne Sports Institute.
If you aren’t familiar with Sporting Schools, it’s a $280 million Australian Government initiative designed to help schools increase children’s participation in sport and connect them with community sport opportunities. Sporting Schools programs are provided free to children and their families to help students build the confidence and capability to be active for life.
Melbourne Sports Institute provides coaches for a range of sports including Baseball (T-ball in Primary Schools and Baseball5 in Secondary), Gymnastics, Volleyball, Badminton to name a few.
I have personally been part of the Baseball community in the South Eastern Melbourne suburbs for quite some time now as a player, parent and coach, I was the Sporting Schools Coordinator for Baseball Victoria prior to this role and am very passionate about helping increase participation in the sport through the Sporting Schools program. I have this program below that I am seeking a coach for, but I am also looking to build up the quantity of high quality baseball coaches to make it easier to fill these requests.
How it works:
· The school selects the sport they wish to run and contact MSI to provide the coaches
· The government provides the school with grant funding to pay for the program
· Coaches signs up as an employee (or contractor) with Melbourne Sports Institute and I email opportunities to the database as they arise (such as the one below)
Coaches must have:
· WWCC (Employee preferred)
· Relevant certificates (e.g. community coaching principals, infection control, child safe certificate – all free and online)
· Experience coaching kids – program outline provided to assist in session planning
· Availability during school hours (some programs are run before or after school but not many)
The benefits:
· Coaches get paid $30 – $40 per session. There might be one session or six within a day (example below)
· Coaches have the ability to connect potential new players with opportunities to play Baseball at surrounding clubs
I am currently emailing the closest clubs to Brunswick East Primary School as this is one I have not yet filled for Term 1. The pay rate is $30 per session and there are 36 sessions in total.

Saturday 13th of March will be our one major club event day for the year. Our 1sts team will play Sunshine in the final game before men’s finals, we are also hoping we have a ladies final on the same day. Details of the day will be publicised soon and will include Baseball, BBQ and other activities including capping off the day with a reverse raffle.
First prize for the raffle will be $1000 and other prizes will be advised as well, including one for the Essendon player or coach who sells the most tickets.
During the final countdown, which will take place after the baseball we will be hosting an event which includes some complimentary drinks.
Dear EBC members, Food for those in need this Xmas delivered, I am told by Erin that due to Corona, this year is different with more people in urgent need for food this Xmas than ever before with many coming from middle class families who have struggled.
This is an amazing initiative by the club of which we should all be proud, if you haven’t returned your bags of food please do tonight or as soon as possible
Last year’s Senior Summer Presentation has finally been rescheduled for Saturday, 30th January 2021 at the EBC Clubrooms, which will commence after the Women’s game.
Save this date and watch this space for more details.
Salvation Army Christmas Bags are now available at the club for people to collect. If you are in a position to help out please fill one out and return by this Sunday (13th).
Below is a document listing all Junior Umpiring Appointments as of this moment (please be aware that changes may occur due to teams adding and withdrawing teams)
Please check the list to see if and when you are rostered to Umpire. It is envisaged at this stage that you will only be rostered once during the season. Players who find their name not on the list, at this stage, may be called upon to umpire once finals come around.
And a reminder to all, especially new players, that this is not optional.
If for ANY reason you believe you will not be able to cover your rostered spot, it is then your responsibility to arrange a swap or replacement.
A reminder text will be sent each Monday morning at 10am reminding that you are rostered to umpire on the coming Sunday.
As you know each year we as a club donate to those in need in the local community. Speaking with the lady today there has never been a more important time for people needing help than now.
She was almost in tears to know we want to keep supporting.
I will have bags available in the rooms tonight which need to be filled and brought back by the 13th of December Please ensure you give and support this initiative that the club is so proud of and so should you be.
On Sunday there will be works going on to build bullpens, lay down crushed rock and a Bobcat and driver have been organised.
If you have any planks, sleepers or the like that can be used to help build the sides of the bullpens that you can donate please drop off prior Sunday. Example shown below.
If you have building skills and would like to donate your time the guys will be there from 8am onwards on Sunday the 29th.
